Ultrasound Cleaning update

Ultrasound Cleaning
- We need to be better at cleaning ultrasound probes after use!
- Using a Clinell to wipe the probe after use is sufficient most of the time -> Clinell packets can now be found on each machine to make it as easy as possible.
- Vascular access: We MUST USE PROBE COVERS please!
- Probe covers also need to be used if high likelihood of contaminating the probe with blood, pus, groin etc. If you are prepping for a messy trauma call E.G penetrating trauma, opening chest drains etc. please prepare the ultrasound with probe covers prior to patient arrival (where possible).
- I know the probe covers are annoying, and not sustainable..... BUT it is much better than having to high level disinfect probes every time we use them for multiple reasons!
- High level disinfection will be accessible for certain situations -> more to come when details have been finalised.
- These are hospital-wide agreed on standards so all in-patient teams should be aware. If you see any in-patient regs using the machines in ED and not cleaning or using probe covers, please remind them of the expectations
